CASE STUDY · PROTOTYPE

The Shelter
Tactical RPG prototype.

A combat prototype and an Ink scene from the same world, told the way the player lives it: from the wasteland down to the Matriarch. Each stop pairs the fiction with the design decision behind it.

Three hundred years under

In 2035 the surface was lost to nuclear catastrophe. Survivors rebuilt their lives in underground shelters. Three centuries later, expeditioners cross the wasteland and find Shelter 99 with its blast hatch forced. From the outside.

In the fiction
A shelter thoroughly wrecked and barely looted. Whatever came through was not after supplies.
Design note
This project uses a random word, a genre and a random camera to create a narrative and suitable gameplay.

The Threshold

A playable scene that walks the squad from the hatch to the Matriarch's door. Every choice is quiet or loud, generous or greedy, and the fight remembers.

Back to the surface

The development was completed in one week. Further testing and more time were needed to achieve a better balance. We will continue to iterate with a few more tests. The narrative lacks depth. However, the basic concepts are sound.
